Invitation letter

A.Avdeev (junior)Dear colleagues and friends,

I wanted to let you know that the European Association for Population Studies (EAPS) has decided to include the special session on historical demography in the program of the European Population Conference 2001. This conference will be held in Helsinki  7-9 June 2001.

I think this initiative gives everybody working on the history of European populations, family history, sources and methods in historical demography and in all of the fields in population studies where historical approaches are productive, the opportunity to meet and to discuss face to face the results, methods and new lines in their researches.

As an organizer of this session, I invite you to participate  and to inform those of  your colleagues who could be interested in presenting their studies. I see our session as an open forum where all topics relative to historical demography as well as demographic history could be presented.  This diversification may display not only the general state of “classic” research , but also shed light on new lines of the development in historical demography.

The successful work of our session in the EAPS Conference 2001 can provide the background for initiating more than one session on historical demography in the program of the future European Conferences which, as you know, the EAPS organizes biannually.

To announce your participation in the EAPS Conference 2001, you are invited to send the preliminary abstract of your communication to the session convenor and to the National Organizing Committee before November 15, 2001. To be published in the Conference Abstracts Book, the definitive abstracts are required to be sent to the National Organizing Committee by 1st May 2001. (The procedure for abstracts is enclosed below.)

More information about the Conference Program, accommodation facilities and registration fees is available on Website :  http://www.vaestoliitto.fi/eaps2001.htm

For my part, I promise to make all abstracts and the full papers available on the INTERNET.

I heard the weather in Finland is so lovely in that season, and I am looking forward to having you as a participant of the EAPS Helsinki Conference.

Yours faithfully,

                          Alexandre A.Avdeev
